1. What is a guard rail?
Guard rails (also known as Check rail) laid parallel to a running track to guide wheels through points sharp curves, slope, and round curves, to reduce wear and the risk of derailments. Check rails are also used on very sharp curves, even where there are no switches.
2. Importance of guard rails?
In order to ensure the direction of the railway train wheels, reduce the side wear and contact fatigue damage of the railhead, lower the maintenance workload, and prevent train wheel derailment accidents, guard rails need to be installed at critical locations on the track. Guard rails can also be installed according to other needs.
3. Important parameters related to guard rail:
Check rail gauge: It refers to the distance from the working edge of switch point rail to the working edge of the guard rail. It should ensure that in the worst case, the guard rail can restrict one side of the wheelset, so that the other side of the wheel does not impact the switch center. Requirement: ≥1391mm.
Back to back distance: It refers to the distance from the working edge of the switch wing rail to the working edge of the guard rail. This distance should ensure that in the worst case, the wheelset is not jammed by the wing rail and guard rail. Requirement: ≤1348mm.
